Skotel Alpine Resort offers backpacker lodging with access to all hotel facilities and communal spaces. Backpacker double rooms feature a Queen sized bed, with access to a shared bathroom and communal facilities including a lounge and kitchen. Backpacker Bunk rooms feature a single sized bed, plus a bunk bed (two singles), linen and towels. Room features a small window, clothes hanging space, Free unlimited WiFi. Shared bathrooms are available for guests in these rooms, as well as a communal kitchen, laundry and lounge. Family Backpacker Rooms feature 2 queen beds & a single bed (bunk over queen). Shared facilities are available for guests including a communal bathroom, kitchen, laundry and lounge. Whanau Backpacker Rooms feature 1 Queen Bed, 1 Queen Bunk Bed and 1 Single Bunk Bed, linen and towels, and free and unlimited WiFi. All rooms also have access to a communal bathroom, kitchen, laundry and lounge.

Skotel Alpine Resort has a licensed restaurant with New Zealand local produce, a full à la carte dinner menu, and a full buffet breakfast available 7 days per week from 7am - 9am. Take-away is available during restaurant hours. The bar opens from 4.00pm with flexible closing hours. Lunch packages can be pre-ordered for hiking, skiing, or sightseeing.

Onsite facilities include Skotel Restaurant & Bar, an outdoor spa, a sauna, a gym, a games room, and a children's play area. Guests have access to free WiFi. Laundry facilities are located next to the carpark entrance and are coin operated; washing powder is available at reception for purchase. An iron and ironing board are available upon request.

Skotel Alpine Resort is in Whakapapa Village, near Tongariro National Park Whakapapa Visitor Centre. It is on the Thermal Explorer & Volcanic Loop Touring Routes, approximately half way between Auckland and Wellington. The hotel offers return shuttles to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing's starting point, which can be booked upon arrival. Edge to Edge Ski Hire provides Ski and Snowboard Hire for Mt Ruapehu. Local hiking trails include Silica Rapids, Tama Lakes, Ridge Track, and Tongariro Northern Circuit. The Sky Waka gondola is a 6km drive. Taranaki Falls commences directly outside of Skotel Alpine Resort.
